With elections on the local, state and national levels scheduled for November, there'll be a dual focus on our demonstrations for October:

1. Rock the Vote: Encouraging community members to register (if needed) and vote for candidates committed to challenging the harmful and illegal actions taken by the Trump administration.

2. Raising the Issues that most heavily impact our lives as individuals, families, neighbors, workers and voters in Vermont.

There's no need to register in advance. Just show up anytime between noon and 1pm  in Depot Square. 

Bring a sign, if you can, that encourages community members to vote or identifies an issue you don't want to get lost in the heat of the moment. And, if you'd like, bring along a rocking chair from home that will help make our Autumn focus on Rock the Vote more visible and the demonstration a bit more physically comfortable!

Just a few days ago, we announced a picket of Hannaford Supermarket’s upcoming corporate retreat in Stowe, VT. President Mike Vail and 150 top company executives had booked a luxury hotel and planned to spend three days amidst the state’s peak fall foliage. Farmworkers who labor twelve hours a day for below minimum wage and live in crowded, substandard housing planned to welcome the executives to Vermont by calling on the company to join the Milk with Dignity Program.

Rather than face farmworkers – the very workers responsible for keeping his stores’ shelves stocked – Hannaford president Mike Vail has decided to turn tail. Following the announcement of Migrant Justice’s planned action, the company has moved its retreat to an alternative location and canceled its reservation, losing a deposit likely worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Farmworkers are undeterred by the company’s cowardice. Hannaford execs may be too scared to face the facts, but workers and consumers remain united demanding Milk with Dignity. With the Vermont retreat canceled, farmworkers are calling for a store picket back at the South Burlington Hannaford where we recently celebrated the program anniversary.

Northfield RISES will be demonstrating twice a month. These mini-demonstrations are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 5pm to 6pm in Depot Square. We hope to regularly engage 5 to 10 RISES members - like you!

People's Health and Wellness will be hosting a free clinic at the Kellogg Hubbard Library on the first Wednesday of the month from 3-5 pm.

You’re invited to attend Northfield RISES Fall FUNraiser Potluck! This is our chance to reconnect as a group and a community - to share stories, updates and good food!

The event will be held at Memorial Park Pavilion on Saturday, September 19th, from 2-5pm.

There will be grills and tables available for use, as well as cornhole and bocce. Feel free to bring your own lawn games, chairs to suit your comfort, and join us with something tasty to share or grill!

In between feasting on desserts and talking with known and new neighbors, we'll do a quick recap of Northfield RISES activities over the past months, take a look at some of the events and volunteer opportunities -- local, statewide, national-- planned for the summer months that could fit well into our Northfield RISES Schedule.

We will not have scheduled speakers, but this is an opportunity to connect with like-minded folks to discuss and share thoughts, show off signs, recruit new members,  and  participate in a Honk and Wave. Folks will then have time to travel to the Rally at the State House

Parking is also available at Police Station, around the Common, behind the American Legion at 48 Depot Sq. and behind Northfield Savings Bank.
